The erotic poems of Carlos Drummond
de Andrade, a household name in Brazil, remained unpublished during his
lifetime, as he feared they would be deemed pornographic. O Amor Natural
celebrates his poetry with recitations by seniors in Rio de Janeiro, which
inspires them to talk about their youth, their passion, and their memories
of sex and love. Through the words of the poems, the recollections of those
reciting them, and the pervasive sensuality on the streets and beaches of
Rio de Janeiro, the film becomes a moving, funny, taboo-breaking ode to
physical love. 1996, The Netherlands, color, 35mm, in Portuguese with English
subtitles, 76 minutes.
FILMING TO THE HEART: SCREEN WORKS BY HEDDY HONIGMANN IS MADE POSSIBLE BY
