King for Two Days: A Dave King Celebration

“Better than anyone at mixing the sensibilities of post-‘60s jazz and indie rock” —New York Times

Friday, March 12: Buffalo Collision, The Bad Plus, Happy Apple, The Bad Apple

Saturday—Band Debuts, March 13: Golden Valley Is Now, Dave King Trucking Company

Join us for two evenings celebrating the singular talent of one of the most prolific jazz/rock percussionists of his generation. Since founding Happy Apple with Michael Lewis and Eric Fratzke in 1996, Dave King has founded and played in an ever-multiplying number of ensembles, forging a reputation as one of those rare musicians who combines rigorous virtuosity, joyous showmanship, and an adventurer’s free spirit. Special surprise guest appearances by other scenesters plus the comic stylings of the hardest-working man in show business promise to make these the music parties of the season.

Friday’s show features Buffalo Collision (Ethan Iverson, Tim Berne, Hank Roberts, and King); the Grammy-nominated the Bad Plus (bassist Reid Anderson with Iverson and King); Happy Apple; and a rare performance by the Bad Apple, a combination of the two super groups.

On Saturday, two of King’s new bands debut: Golden Valley Is Now (Craig Taborn, Reid Anderson, King) and Dave King Trucking Company (Fratzke, Chris Speed, Adam Linz, and King).
