During his two-week residency at the Walker, interdisciplinary artist and choreographer Ralph Lemon will “hold court” in conversation with Walker senior curator Fionn Meade, discussing how we think of value in relation to artistic practice.
Lemon began his career as a dancer and choreographer, and is now seen as a critical figure exploring intersections between the performing and contemporary art worlds. His newest work to be presented at the Walker, Scaffold Room, merges performance, visual art, music, and text—an inquisitive hybrid that premieres in the Burnet Gallery before a national tour. Lemon calls it a “lecture-performance-musical,” one that refracts ideas of contemporary performance through archetypal black female personae in American culture.
