Sensory Friendly Sunday is a monthly event designed for kids, teens, and adults with sensory processing differences, autism spectrum disorder, or developmental disabilities. The galleries will be closed to the general public, allowing visitors to enjoy the museum in a calm environment with accommodations such as quiet spaces, fidgets, and sunglasses available. Experience current Walker exhibitions Five Ways In and The Paradox of Stillness and grab an art kit to make art at home!
This June–September (weather permitting), play a round of mini golf on the Walker’s rooftop. The one-of-a-kind course features 10 distinctive, artist-designed holes, including two new additions created in collaboration with Native Youth Arts Collective.
Admission Tickets
Timed tickets are now required for all visitors. For Sensory Friendly Sundays, you will have the option of 8 am, 9 am, or 10 am time slots. Please arrive during the hour you selected. Once inside the museum, you can stay as long as you want. Reserve your free timed admission here.
You do not need an additional ticket to play mini golf during your visit to Sensory Friendly Sunday between 8 and 11 am.
To ensure safety for visitors and Walker staff, we have made some changes to the Sensory Friendly Sunday program and our visitation guidelines. Though masks are encouraged but no longer required during general gallery hours, we will continue to require that masks be worn at Sensory Friendly Sunday because some community members cannot receive the COVID-19 vaccine. With that in mind, please wear a mask at Sensory Friendly Sunday in support of those in our community who cannot be vaccinated and/or have a weakened immune system. We will not be hosting film screenings or art-making projects at Sensory Friendly Sunday at this time.
To prepare for your visit, check out this Social Narrative. Skyline Mini Golf is partially accessible. All holes are playable from the perimeter, if guests are unable to step onto the holes. For more information about accessibility, call 612-375-7564 or email access@walkerart.org.
This program was created in consultation with the Autism Society of Minnesota (AuSM) and the University of Minnesota’s Occupational Therapy Program.
