Student Open House with Ursula Rucker

Every year WACTAC rolls out the proverbial red carpet to Twin Cities students for the Student Open House – a night of free films, performances, tours and artmaking, and a “featured” artist. In 2002, it was Ursula Rucker. In a perfect world, Ursula would be on permanent rotation on MTV and have a platinum record. Groupies would chase her through the backstage corridors after her concerts and she would be whisked away to her 4 star hotel in a limousine filled with models and celebrities. But the world is a cruel place, and Ursula was forced to hang out with WACTAC after her show instead. She was real cool about it though, and sat patiently through the epic spoken-word poetry cycle WACTAC had written in her honor. It was about a kitten named Mittens. He couldn’t find his way home.
