Dear Brother,
The move from Mogadishu to Minneapolis has been extremely jarring. The streets aren’t paved with gold, they are covered in cold, white snow.
Sometimes people move. I moved from the Des Moines to Minneapolis, that a whopping 250 miles. Aside from the general shock of velveeta and hot dish, Minnesota basically is Iowa. Julie Mehretu knows first hand what being an immigrant is like and wanted to work with East African teenagers in Minneapolis that have shared this story. Their stories, pictures, and general hatred of the cold are captured online at http://tceastafrica.walkerart.org
