Walker tour guides will visit schools in the Twin Cities metro area to offer 45-minute presentations about contemporary art and architecture for K – 12 students. Presentations for groups of up to 30 students feature lively discussions and hands-on activities. The cost is $50 per visit and includes a resource guide for teachers to keep. Classroom Connections programs are available 8:30 am – 3 pm, Tuesday – Friday. The following topics are available:
Artful Thinking (grades K – 4)
Includes a slide or digital presentation and drawing activities to acquaint students with major works in the Walker’s permanent collection.
So, Why Is This Art? (grades 5 – 12)
Explores key questions about art and discusses traditional notions of what art “should” and can be. Includes a slide or digital presentation, discussion questions, and classroom activities.
More than a Museum: The Walker Art Center Expansion (grades K – 12)
Includes a slide or digital preview of the new Walker Art Center and engages students in activities and discussions about the process of designing a new space for contemporary visual, performing, and media arts.
Community Connections (Adult)
Walker tour guides will visit organizations in the Twin Cities metro area for a 45-minute presentation, More than a Museum: The Walker Art Center Expansion. Presentations can be customized for your group and may include a brief overview of the expansion, or may focus on a more in-depth look at the Walker and its collections and exhibitions. Presentations are available 12 – 3 and 5 – 9 pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays. Please contact us at least one month in advance.
