Performance: Ragamala Music and Dance Theater, 11 am
Internationally recognized for its innovation and risk-taking, Ragamala Music and Dance Theater presents an early look at parts of the spectacular Sethu (Bridge) performance, a stunning retelling of the Indian myth of the Ramayana. Join the artists for hands-on experiences with gamelan instruments, learn a few dance movements, and sing the monkey chant. Come back for the full presentation of Sethu on September 11 and 12.
Reading: Rama and Sita: A Tale from Ancient Java, 12 noon
Isabell O’Connor, a Guthrie Theater company member and author of the children’s book Hope, reads the story of Rama and Sita, the Ramayana’s main characters. Captivatingly written and illustrated by David Weitzman, the story features language and imagery based on Javanese shadow puppets.
