Mike Kelley’s Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstruction

In conjunction with a talk from the new series Contemporary Art in Conversation with artist Mike Kelley and critic John Welchman (June 2, 7 pm), the Walker presents a screening of Domestic Scene and Day Is Done from Kelley’s large-scale video work Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstruction (2000). This group of 365 videotapes and video installations relates to his 1995 sculptural work Educational Complex. Through restaged photographs of “extracurricular activities” found in high school yearbooks and newspapers, the videos address issues of repressed memory, abuse, and the culture of victimization.
