Sound Garden

Bring your sunscreen for this celebration of sound, sun, and fun in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. In the event of rain, outdoor events will be canceled, not rescheduled. Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Art-making for the Whole Family: Sound Sculptures

11 am – 3:30 pm

Help artist-musicians Rachel Thompson and Jonathan Zorn build two “Sound Bot” sculptures that can signal to each other across the Garden. Come play with these hands-on musical contraptions and adorn them with additional parts to squeeze, honk, blow, and whistle. Then make your own instrument to take home. Take an a-MAZE-ing walk through Brett Smith’s installation Sound Maze. Watch where you step — you might trigger a noise! See if you can make it to the other side without a peep.

Drumming Workshop

11:30 am – 2 :30 pm

Drop in on a hand-drumming workshop with musicians Aaron Barnell and Marc Anderson, who will help you syncopate slaps into traditional African rhythms.
