Set within a 19th-century opera house in Manaus, Brazil (made famous by Werner Herzog’s film Fitzcarraldo), Teatro Amazonas is a portrait of an audience of 308 area residents listening to a 60-member choral group perform American composer Becky Allen’s minimalist piece. As the music fades away, the sounds of the crowd take over. 1999, U.S., color, 35mm, 40 minutes.
