Conversations between Collections: Kara Walker in Context

During this two-part tour, select pieces from the collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) and the Walker are used to establish a context for Kara Walker’s complex work. From African sculpture to early colonial American decorative arts, a number of works at the MIA are reflected in the exhibition Kara Walker: My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love. Participants discuss themes of history, mythology, and power as seen in artworks and cultural objects from the past and present. A reception with wine and cheese follows the second session.
