The exhibition Body Politics: Figurative Prints and Drawings from Schiele to de Kooning addresses the tendency of some early 20th-century artists to exoticize African and Oceanic tribal culture in their work. Lucy personalizes the legacy of this gaze with a story about a young West Indian woman, working in New York for a wealthy family, who is caught between her people’s colonial history and the cultural experience of modern America. Join a tour of Body Politics before the book club at 6 pm. Note: Author will not be present at event.
