Based on John Steinbeck’s classic, this film starring Henry Fonda is a sympathetic look at the fate of Depression-era farmers who fled the Dust Bowl for a brighter future in California. The inspiration for numerous artists and filmmakers, this tale is now the focus of a new work commissioned by the Minnesota Opera, under the direction of Eric Simonson (2006 Academy Award–winner for best short documentary A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin). Simonson joins Walker film curator Sheryl Mousley after the screening for a discussion about the challenges and excitement of adapting The Grapes of Wrath from book to film to opera. 1940, 35mm, 128 minutes.
