In 1967, artist Bruce Conner was invited by his close friend Dennis Hopper onto the set of Cool Hand Luke (screening at Summer Music & Movies on August 3). Capturing on 8mm a behind-the-scenes glimpse at a chain gang sequence, Conner went on to transform the two-and-one-half minutes of footage into a hauntingly elegiac, slow-motion look at the Hollywood production, edited entirely in-camera with an added electronic score by Patrick Gleeson. 1967–2004, 8mm enlargement to 16mm/digital, color/sound, 22 minutes.
