You have great taste. Find new ways to display it as you work with some of the Twin Cities’ most creative, forward-thinking fashion designers. Workshops in June feature the talents of Calpurnia Peach—a collaboration between Luci Kandler and Ashley Wokasch, whose line has been a hit at Minneapolis’ annual Voltage: Fashion Amplified show.
June 25: Screenprinting with Calpurnia Peach
Flowers, bikes, fireflies, lake cabins—what do you associate with a Minnesota summer? Calpurnia Peach helps participants to design a personal emblem of summery good times and screenprint it on clothing brought from home. Bring along additional used or gently worn clean clothes to donate to Kulture Klub Collaborative, a nonprofit arts organization that works with homeless teens.
July 9: Upcyling Is the New Recycling
Turn those tired pants you wore all winter into a skirt! Designer/artist Rebecca Yaker— noted for her myriad takes on the Sock Monkey – from infant onesies to gowns knit to simulate the stuffed animal—shows how to “upcycle” your clothes into new and delightful attire. Please bring your favorite long sleeve button front shirts to repurpose into new summery, feminine tops! Some shirts will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own apparel to transform. (Coats, hats, scarves, and other winter wear will also be accepted for donation to charity by Arc Greater Twin Cities)
August 6: Make Your Own Misfit Toy
My Little Pony + Care Bear + Furby = a robo plushy retrofit! Misfit toymaker/artist Asia Ward shows participants how to craft lovably odd playthings. Toys are provided, but if you wish, bring your own. (Coats, hats, scarves, and other winter wear will also be accepted for donation to charity by Arc Greater Twin Cities)
