Transsexual performer Candy Darling escaped the teasing and abuse of family life growing up in Long Island to be embraced by New York’s subculture of the late 1960s and early ’70s, and was even celebrated in Lou Reed’s song “Walk on the Wild Side.” Finding a home within Andy Warhol’s Factory, she starred in his film Flesh and also worked with Tennessee Williams, Richard Avedon, and Robert Mapplethorpe. When her family renounces her after her death, Candy’s legacy is preserved by her longtime partner, Jeremiah Newton, who produced this documentary. 2009, video, 85 minutes.
