40 Years of Groundbreaking International Performance

The Walker offers Twin Cities audiences some of the most original, daring, and unforgettable live performing art experiences available anywhere in the world. Many of these projects share a joyous disregard of standard artistic disciplinary boundaries—jazz composers collaborate with filmmakers, dancers join puppeteers, theater artists integrate film into their pieces, and choreographers create “living installations” in a gallery.

The season features a five-part Adventures in New Puppetry series, showcasing virtuosic works from South Africa, Latvia, Canada, England, and Minnesota. This year’s celebrated Out There festival of alternative performance features a full spectrum of thrilling work drawn from across Europe. Join us to welcome the return of acclaimed artists Ralph Lemon, Eiko & Koma, the Kronos Quartet, Gob Squad, and Improbable Theatre as well as many voices from across the world new to Minnesota.

Season Preview with Philip Bither

The public is invited to a free 2010–2011 Performing Arts Season Preview on Thursday, September 9, at 7 pm in the McGuire Theater. Performing arts senior curator Philip Bither presents videos, music, and backstories for the intriguing new projects, major commissions, boundary-bending collaborations, returning eminent artists, and fresh voices from across the world that make up this rousing season.

BALCONY BAR

The upper balcony of the McGuire Theater is the place to meet the artists, talk about the show, and enjoy a drink ($5 wine, $3 beer, $2 soda). Open after all performances and before select shows.

Meet at the back of the Balcony Bar after every Saturday dance and Out There performance for an
informal dialogue with a Walker tour guide and a local choreographer or theater artist. Think book
club, but with a performance. Jump into the discussion or just listen in as others hash it out after the show. Your questions. Your answers. Risk-free.

Gallery Tours
