“Transform[s] a tall tale into cinematic magic convincingly. The outstanding cast creates a collection of oddball characters that are as charming as they are calculating.” —2011 Sundance Film Festival
When an opportunistic insurance agent (Greg Kinnear) discovers that one of his clients, a semi-lucid octogenarian farmer (Alan Arkin), is sitting on a valuable antique violin, he must wrestle with his lust for wealth amid the complications that ensue. Billy Crudup, Bob Balaban, and Lea Thompson are among the stellar cast in this intricate, farcical tale of deception. While writer/director Sprecher set her film in Kenosha, Wisconsin, she filmed in Minnesota, creating “brilliantly composed widescreen images … [that] are as bright as any noir’s could be” (Variety). 2011, 35mm, 94 minutes.
