Tom Leader Studio/Kennedy & Violich Architecture

This talk by the winners of Minneapolis Riverfront Design Competition follows up on last fall’s lecture series on the future of public parks. TLS/KVA is a bicoastal urban and landscape design team—Tom Leader Studio in Berkeley and Kennedy and Violich Architecture in Boston—whose design framework for the riverfront in Minneapolis focuses on water, health, mobility, and green economy. The competition’s jury was impressed by the team’s proposal, Riverfirst, and its emphasis on thorough research, the river’s heritage and the restoration of its ecological health, and the involvement of all segments of our community. Tom Leader, Sheila Kennedy, and Frano Violich return to Minneapolis to share projects they’ve completed in other cities and will discuss the next phases of implementing Riverfirst, following a process of community engagement and collaboration with Minnesota-based planning firms. Organized by the Minneapolis Parks Foundation, the Walker Art Center, and the University of Minnesota College of Design.
