Now it its 10th edition, the Momentum: New Dance Works series introduces the next generation’s most promising choreographers and offers a snapsot of Minnesota’s contemporary dance landscape. In celebration of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden’s 25th anniversary, three Momentum alumni perform dances newly commissioned by the Walker as part of the Free First Saturday festivities.
Kenna Cottman presents a group dance and drum performance based on Senegalese “lutte” wrestling and the choreographed ceremony around the fight spectacle. Chris Schlichting, named City Pages’ 2012 choreographer of the year, offers a follow-up to his acclaimed Matching Drapes. Kaleena Miller creates a percussive piece with live music and tap dance. Program notes are also available online.
In case of rain, the event moves indoors to the McGuire Theater.
