Stephen Tobolowsky with True Stories

Veteran character actor Stephen Tobolowsky presents one of his most beloved films—True Stories, which he cowrote with director David Byrne (Talking Heads) and Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart). The rollicking tale of outlandish antics in a small Texas town celebrating its sesquicentennial features striking performances by Byrne, John Goodman, Spalding Gray, and Swoozie Kurtz. 1986, video, 90 minutes.

Following the screening, Tobolowsky will discuss his approach to storytelling and the creation of characters on the page and on-screen. The actor’s more than 200 film credits include Ned Ryerson in Groundhog Day, Sammy Jankis in Memento, and Sandy Ryerson on Glee.

Copresented by Public Radio International (PRI) and Minnesota Public Radio (MPR), in conjunction with the PRI radio series and popular podcast The Tobolowsky Files, plus a performance by the actor presented by MPR at the Fitzgerald Theater on October 10.
