Hopper Stories

For the series Hopper Stories, French/German cultural television channel Arte commissioned eight European directors to each create a short film based on a painting by American artist Edward Hopper. Three of the films are featured in the exhibition Hopper Drawing: A Painter’s Process, as they directly relate to works on view in the galleries. See all eight films in this rare screening in the Walker Cinema.

The featured directors are Mathieu Amalric (who also acted in the recent The Grand Budapest Hotel), Sophie Barthes (Cold Souls), Dominique Blanc (actress in Queen Margot), Martin de Thurah (James Blake: Limit to Your Love), Sophie Fiennes (Over Your City Grass Will Grow), Valérie Mréjen (Iris in Bloom), Valérie Pirson (animator on Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?), and Hannes Stöhr (Berlin is in Germany). 2012, DCP, 40 minutes.
