See, Sit, Sup, Sip, Sing: Holding Court
See, Sit, Sup, Sip, Sing: Holding Court is an installation created by artist Theaster Gates, on view in the exhibition Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art. Made up of tables, chairs, and desks salvaged from a now-closed public school on Chicago’s South Side, this classroomlike scenario in the gallery is designed as an experience for learning created by the people assembled in and around it. Throughout the run of the exhibition, Holding Court will feature a range of programs, including artist-led discussions, community-organized programs, high school and college group visits, and Walker staff meetings—all open to the public.
Check back for updates and additional programs, or contact the Walker’s community coordinator, Robert Smith III, for details about getting involved at robert.smith@walkerart.org.
