Have fun in the sun before the fireworks begin! Celebrate Independence Day with artful adventures for all ages. This daylong family festival features music, art-making, and a parade especially for kids.
Activities will be held in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, unless otherwise noted. Gallery admission is free for everyone on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to 5 pm, with a variety of family activities scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm. In the event of rain, some programs will move inside the Walker Art Center.
Performance: Garden Party
- 11 am: Justin Roberts & The Not Ready for Naptime Players
- 1 pm: Brass Messengers
Rock out to Grammy Award-nominated tunes and homegrown Minneapolis sounds at this special plein air concert. After each performance, follow the band as they lead a family parade through the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
Workshop: Double Dutch, 11 am–2 pm
Learn and play single and double dutch jump rope with trained coaches from the YWCA St. Paul.
Art-Making: Fantastical Hats, 10 am–3 pm
Create a marvelous hat using discarded scraps and other materials destined for the landfill! While you make your artistic headpiece, learn about stewardship for the environment. Artists from ArtStarts ArtScraps will guide you through a fun and creative art-making experience.
Art Making: Totally Tubular, 10 am–3 pm
Grab a cardboard tube and experiment with sound and movement as you design instruments and batons to use in the parade in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
