A stunning portrait. -- Melbourne International Film Festival
Rare archival photos and footage comprise this documentary about Jean Epstein’s time spent in Brittany. Schneider shows how the sea inspired the lyrical films in which Epstein poignantly explored the core of the medium while isolated from the film industry. 2011, color, DCP, 68 minutes.
Director James Schneider will be present for a discussion following the screening. A filmmaker, video performer, and writer, Schneider studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, and holds graduate degrees in philosophy and aesthetics from the University of Paris.
