Performance artist and storyteller Beverly Cottman brings selected stories to life during an in-gallery performance inspired by the work of Jack Whitten.
About the Artist
Beverly Cottman, aka Auntie Beverly, tells stories, myths, and folktales rooted in African and African American traditions. Storytelling sessions pass on values, instill pride, evoke self-love and celebrate culture. Presentations take place in settings as intimate as birthday parties or book club gatherings as well as large auditoriums and business conferences. Cottman developed her expertise as a storyteller during 30 years as an educator in the Minneapolis Public School system and 15 years as a grandmother. She uses storytelling to help us embrace the power of our connectedness as human beings as well as celebrate our unique and individual selves.
