About the Presenter
Since 2010 Deirdre Haj has been the director of Full Frame, the nation’s largest documentary-only film festival, held in Durham, North Carolina. Under her leadership, the event is an Oscar-qualifying festival for short form documentary. Both the 2014 and 2015 Full Frame juried short winners became Oscar nominees. Haj also implemented key components of the festival’s perennial programming, including free year-round screenings and the “Teach the Teachers” program and lending library for public school teachers.
In addition to her Full Frame duties, Haj is vice president of the Film Festival Alliance and a sought-after panelist and jurist at universities, festivals, and conferences across the country. Since moving from Durham to Minneapolis last year, she delivered the keynote speech at the Flyway Film Festival and adjudicated a National Endowment for the Arts grant. In March she will attend the South by Southwest Film Festival as a mentor.
