As Chantal Akerman traveled from East Germany across Poland to Moscow, she filmed the images and encounters that moved her. This accumulation of dialogue-free moments is a fascinating blend of documentary, art, and fiction that questions rules of time and space. It was shown at the Walker in a 25-screen installation as part of the 1995 exhibition Bordering on Fiction: Chantal Akerman’s “D’Est.” 1993/1995, Belgium/France/Portugal, 16mm, 107 minutes.
