Free First Saturday: Everyone Is a Mn Artist

Gallery admission is free for everyone on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to 5 pm, with a variety of family activities scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm.

Mn Artists is both a digital platform and a community of regional artists working in many creative fields. Join a variety of Minnesota artists to see, make, and join in projects surprisingly close to home.

Work-life balance is a challenge for us all. Visit with the participating artists to learn about how their studio practices have been impacted as their family grows. Read other artists’ writings about work/life balance at Mn Artists.

Art-Making: Tape Up, 10 am–3 pm

Star Tribune Foundation Art Lab
Draw with tape to create an abstract book, and add to a collaborative project on the wall and floor. This activity is based on a project by Lex Thompson, Paula McCartney, and their son.

Art-Making: Drawing the Alphabet, 11 am–3 pm

Cargill Lounge
Spend time with local artist Syed Hosain and his children as you explore calligraphy, the visual art of writing. Discover letters and symbols from around the world and learn a new way to write your name.

Performance: Storytime with Nancy Carlson, 11 am

Garden Terrace Room
Join us for a special story time with local author and illustrator Nancy Carlson as she reads some books about her own children and shares her drawing secrets.

Performance: Roe Family Singers, 12:30 and 1:30 pm

Cargill Lounge
Sit back and enjoy the Roe Family Singers, with wife and husband duo Kim and Quillan Roe. This local band blends old-time sounds with rock-and-roll urgency and influence with some surprising instruments.
