Free First Saturday Garden Party: Play

Spend the day enjoying the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden with puppet performances and art-making, then get your groove on at a special outdoor dance party.

Gallery admission is free for everyone on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to 6 pm, with a variety of family activities scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm.

Art-Making: Incredible Insects, 10 am–3 pm
Create a single-string puppet with artist Christopher Lutter-Gradella by using found and recycled materials. Discover the important role insects play as pollinators and find out about ways that you can help protect their environment.

Activity: Passing Messages, 11 am–3 pm
Send notes and letters to strangers through a rope and pulley system designed by artist Alyssa Baguss that connects the hillside Wurtele Upper Garden to the Walker terraces. Share highlights of your day or your favorite poem and encourage other people to join in the fun!

Performance: Young Americans: A Mini Transmission for the Minis in Your Life, 10 am–3 pm
DJ Jake Rudh presents a new twist on his weekly Minneapolis-based post-punk, new wave, and indie dance show “Transmission.” Come show off your dance moves at an all-day dance party in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.

Performance: Molly and the Magic Boot, 11 am and 1 pm
Enjoy Open Eyes Figure Theatre’s special “Driveway” tours, featuring a puppet show about a little girl who discovers the wonders of the outdoors using her imagination.
