Revered Belgian dance master Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and Spanish-born choreographer Salva Sanchis present a new quartet set to John Coltrane’s essential 1965 album, A Love Supreme. Meticulous form and raw energy combine as each of the four male dancers reflects one of the recording’s instrumentalists: Coltrane, pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones. This interplay is translated literally into a dance in which the choreographers perfectly interweave improvisation and composition. Since its premiere in February 2017, critics have heralded this as a not-to-be missed dance masterwork.
