Neighborhood Media Project: Cuban Cinema
Join the Walker Art Center at four different local community centers: Sabathani Community Center, Hallie Q Brown Community Center, Phillips Community Center and St. Paul Neighborhood Network for free screenings of Cuban cinema.
Film in Community remembers the work of 1980’s Twin Cities organizers, the Neighborhood Media Project, and their work with community groups to host screenings at various community centers. For this four part screening series, the Walker Art Center will show Cuban films at community centers throughout the Twin Cities highlighting the connection between the political spirit of the Neighborhood Media Project and similar post-revolutionary Cuban projects. The final screening will be followed by an in-conversation with Gary Cunningham, Neighborhood Media Project founder; Franklin Curbelo, organizer of the Twin Cities Cuban Film Festival; and Leola Johnson, Associate Professor and Chair of Media and Cultural Studies at Macalester College.
