Get inspired by Siah Armajani: Follow This Line and the newly renovated Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge, then create your own drawings. Each session will focus on a different aspect of Armajani’s work, so plan on a fall full of learning and creativity. Guided exercises make these workshops accessible for all levels of experience; no prior drawing or art experience required and all materials are supplied by the Walker. Workshops are led by Minneapolis-based architect Amber Sausen, president of global nonprofit Urban Sketchers.

On September 6, explore the newly renovated Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge, built in 1988. Through multiple sketching techniques, participants will build a layered understanding and reflect on the artist’s intent for the sculpture. Sessions on October 4 and November 1 will take place in the galleries, diving deeper into Armajani’s work through simple sketching exercises exploring spatial relationships.

Amber Sausen is the 2017–2019 president of Urban Sketchers, an international nonprofit whose mission is to raise the artistic, narrative, and educational value of on-location drawing around the world. Sausen leads monthly outing of the Urban Sketchers Twin Cities chapter and is active in sketching education with the American Institute of Architects Minnesota Chapter.
