Art House Theater Day Featured Film: Vever

Deborah Stratman’s film Vever will be featured all day (11 am–5 pm) in the Walker’s Bentson Mediatheque as part of Art House Theater Day 2019.

Stratman brings past perspectives into the contemporary moment in this montage of unfinished film footage from artist Barbara Hammer with evocative sound, texts, and teachings from artist Maya Deren. Vever poetically draws connects between three generations of women filmmakers who separately, and now together, have taken on unknown challenges, and opened themselves up to reinterpretation in their filmmaking practices. 2018, video, 12 min.

Vever was commissioned by the Walker Art Center as part of a series of new videos responding to the inspirations, inquiry, and influence of key artists in the Walker’s Ruben/Bentson Moving Image Collection.
