The Walker Art Center is taking every precaution for the safety and care of all visitors, staff, and artists. To proactively protect the entire community, the museum will remain temporarily closed. This program has been affected by the closure. We hope to resume our activities and welcome you back soon. Learn more.

Join Lara Mimosa Montes and Tricia Heuring for a conversation on the importance of alternative experimental art spaces, the role of curation in collections of the past and present, and ways that artists in the Bronx of the 1980s might inform local artists working in urban spaces today.

Tricia Heuring is a Thai American curator and arts organizer. Her curatorial practice is balanced between individualized support for emerging artists and building systemic change in the Minneapolis/St. Paul nonprofit arts sector. She is the cofounder of Public Functionary, a Minneapolis-based multidisciplinary arts and exhibition platform now in its seventh year of programming.

Lara Mimosa Montes, originally from the Bronx, is a writer based in Minneapolis and New York. Her second book, Thresholes, is forthcoming from Coffee House Press. She is a 2018 McKnight Writing Fellow and senior editor of Triple Canopy.
