Join us to kick off summer with a party on the Walker hillside! Dance to music spun by DJ Michel.Be, catch a performance by Drag Story Hour, and pick up an art kit to get creative in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden or at home!

Hillside Performances

Three hourlong performances will each feature DJ Michel.Be spinning tunes for a dance party and a performance by Old Man Zimmer, Doña Pepa, and Sid Sity from Drag Story Hour. Join us at 10 am, 12 noon, or 2 pm!

Get creative with projects inspired by three artworks from the Walker and Minneapolis Sculpture Garden! Each kit contains instructions and all the materials you need to create your own artwork. For ages 4 and up; young children will need some help from an adult. Quantities are limited.

DJ Michel.Be comes from the power of jazz, 1960s and 1970s revolutionary funk, hip hop, house, and music of the African Diaspora. Michel.Be evokes spiritual power through music and creates positive dance spaces for trans, gender nonconforming, and queer people of color.

Old Man Zimmer was born at a very young age. He loves gardening, garbage, getting the mail, and sharing stories with his best friends. Played by Emily.

Doña Pepa is a Venezuelan queen living her most colorful life prancing and cycling through Minneapolis’s water and nature sources. A dancing diva, a fierce advocate for authenticity and self-expression. Played by Pedro.

Sid Sity is from Oakland and is here to spread love, positivity, and kindness to everyone she meets. She loves to sing, crochet, and uplift her friends. Played by Siddeeqah Shabazz.

Mask wearing is recommended and politely requested. No umbrellas, lawn furniture, or pets. No smoking allowed. Handwashing and hand sanitizer stations are located throughout each event.

Tickets are no longer required for this program. You’re welcome to simply show up.

There will be two accessible seating spaces on level grassy areas on the hillside—one at the bottom of the hill and one halfway up the hill. These spaces are next to a paved path and will have chairs for people who need them. Staff members stationed around the hillside will be able to assist with accessible seating.
