This new feature documentary follows artist Julie Mehretu as she prepares for her mid-career survey, co-organized with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Whitney Museum of American Art and currently on view at the Walker Art Center. The film traces the artist’s preparations for her exhibition, leading up to the installation and realization of the survey at LACMA in 2019. The artist offers extensive commentary on her work, her process, and the chronology of her career, from her graduate work at RISD (1996–1997) to her most recent expansive and multilayered canvases.
