Please join us for two free dance workshops presented in partnership with the Walker, Pillsbury House Theatre, Pangea World Theater, and choreographer Leslie Parker in conjunction with of her multiyear project Call to Remember. Part of this layered, process-based work includes the Black Dance Improvisation Workshop Series. This edition of the series features special guest Marlies Yearby, nationally acclaimed choreographer, dancer, and educator.

This workshop is open to community organizers, healers, activists and all bodies interested in learning about and exploring Black Dance Improvisation.
Saturday, October 22, 1–3 pm, light dinner to follow
This workshop centers BIPOC dancers/movers interested in deepening their practice in Black Dance Improvisation and is open to all who support the exploration of healing, remembrance, lineage, and joy as a means of cultivating community. A casual dinner and conversation will follow this workshop.
Call to Remember is a shared offering of improvisation, experimentation, and conjuring exploring Black pedagogy, artistry, and activism in dance.
The workshops with Marlies Yearby build on activities begun with Leslie Parker Dance Project at Pillsbury House Theatre in February 2020 that are continuing to unfold. Now in deep collaboration with Pangea World Theater, the Walker, and Danspace Project in New York, we work toward a 2023 festival of Black Dance Improvisation at Pillsbury House Theater and Pangea, and the world premiere of Divination Tools: imagine home at the Walker in May.
