On select Thursday evenings this fall, join our educators to make your own artwork inspired by current exhibitions. After making some art, check out the Walker’s Library and galleries, open from 5 to 9 pm. Thursday night art-making in the Art Lab gives anyone the chance to come together to explore art and their own creativity.

Drop-In Art-Making takes place on September 7 and 14, and October 12 and 26.

Activities are designed for ages 4 and up, and all materials are provided. No prior registration is required. Materials will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis; supplies are limited.

Activity instructions are available in English and Spanish.

On Thursday evenings September 7 and 14, join Walker educators to make your own artwork during a Zine Workshop. A zine (pronounced “zeen,” like magazine) is an independent, small-circulation publication that is self-published. Often handmade and always DIY, zines can be handwritten, hand drawn, typewritten, computer printed, or whatever the creator can think of.

This Zine Workshop is a drop-in art-making activity that will provide instructions and supplies to create your own one-page zine. The Walker Art Center’s Library will be open for participants to find inspiration and unique content for their project, and to learn more about the artists’ books in the collection.

On Thursday evenings October 12 and 26, come to the Walker to make custom dream pillows. Dream pillows are hand-sewn pouches filled with dried herbs for the aromatic benefits. This workshop is a drop-in art-making activity that will provide directions and materials to sew and fill your own pillow.

Different herbs have different effects, like peppermint to reduce stress, lavender for better sleep, eucalyptus for relaxation, and more. A tradition in many cultures, dream pillows are a simple trinket kept close for a boost of aromatherapy.

On October 12, the Walker Art Center’s Library will be open for participants to peruse a selected collection of books on dreams and on artists who were inspired by dreams. On October 26, the library will host scary storytelling from 7–8 pm; please gather five minutes before 7 pm, space is limited.
