Zorn @ 70: At the Basilica

Logo: Zorn@70 at the Basilica

The historic day celebrating Zorn @70 culminates with a free midnight Hermetic Organ recital by John Zorn on the Basilica of Saint Mary’s massive 1949 Wicks Opus 3047 organ.

Based on Zorn’s recording series The Hermetic Organ and drawing upon traditions as varied as Messiaen, Xenakis, Ligeti, Bach, Tournemire, Ives, Korla Pandit, and The Phantom of the Opera, Zorn’s organ improvisations are transcendent, inspiring, ecstatic experiences that offer a direct line to the workings of his rich compositional imagination. Zorn has performed Hermetic solos on magnificent organs around the world—don’t miss your chance to hear this legendary recital that promises to be a sonically immersive experience filled with moments of passion, tenderness, and extraordinary power.

Presented in association with the Basilica of Saint Mary.
