The Book of HOV an exhibition on the life of Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter, created by Roc Nation in partnership with Brooklyn Public Library. She is also the author of Darkly: Black History and America’s Gothic Soul, equal parts Afrogoth memoir and trenchant analysis of the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade and the cultural work of mourning.

Bio
Leila Taylor is a designer and writer whose professional work and private projects center on the written word. As Creative Director for Brooklyn Public Library, she shapes the creative vision of the institution and amplifies the voice of one of the largest public library systems in the country. As a writer and speaker, she explores the intersection of history and horror and the gothic in contemporary culture. She received her B.S. in Graphic Design from the University of Cincinnati and her Masters in Graphic Design from Yale. Twenty years later, she returned to academia and received an MFA from The New School of Social Research where she developed her first book, Darkly: Black History and America’s Gothic Soul.
