Nowhere Near by Miko Revereza

A recurring thread in Miko Revereza’s second feature film follows his efforts to track down the lawyer who handled his family’s unresolved efforts to formally immigrate to the United States. Though this gesture of investigative documentary returns throughout the film, Revereza never speaks to the lawyer. Instead, Nowhere Near weaves a nuanced reflection on the artist’s experience living undocumented in the United States for 26 years. Tracing his journey from Los Angeles to the Mall of America, and his eventual decision to leave the country, likely for good, Revereza’s diary-like and poetic essay film is a proposition toward what Revereza calls “a stateless cinema.” 2023, USA and Philippines, Tagalog and English with English subtitles, DCP, 95 min.

A pre-recorded discussion between Revereza and artist Pio Abad follows the screening.
