Due to air quality conditions, Free First Saturday: Pollinator Power has been moved indoors.
Flowers are in bloom and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is a-flutter with pollinators. Join us as we thank our fellow friends-of-flowers through storytelling, movement, and art-making in the Garden.
Free First Saturday features free gallery admission on the first Saturday of every month. Gallery admission tickets are available online in advance and on-site on the event day from the Main Lobby desk. Free admission 10 am–5 pm; activities 10 am–3 pm.
The Walker Art Center is honored to partner with Deaf Equity for this event. For this Free First Saturday, Deaf Equity will bring ASL storytelling, education, and their Bee mascot to remind us to “Be Kind and Do Good”!
Together, we are working to have ASL Interpreters available at all activity locations during the program. If there are any other accommodation needs, please contact us at access@walkerart.org or 612-375-7564 with as much advance notice as possible.
Activity Information
10 am–3 pm, Bee Hydrated
Busy bees get thirsty! In honor of their hard work, we’ll craft tiny drinking cups to put in the ground, giving pollinators a safe place to sip.
10 am–3 pm, Clothespin Butterflies with ArtStart
Design your own butterfly with artist Franny Haight. Make a design that suits your style and watch as your butterfly flaps its wings.
10 am–3 pm, Bee a Pollinator with Science from Scientists
Using models, visitors will try their hand at “bee-ing” a pollinator with three flower shapes. Learn how different pollinators’ mouths allow them to easily access nectar in some flowers, while others can be more difficult.
10 am–3 pm, Bee-autiful Headbands
Join us as we create bee-autiful headbands from paper and chenille stems. When you’re done, buzz around the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden like the pollinators do!
10 am–3 pm, Family Fun Resource Table
Grab a Scavenger Hunt to explore the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden or borrow some toys to get your body moving.
11 am and 1 pm, ASL Storytelling with Deaf Equity
Join our friends at Deaf Equity for an interactive storytelling experience. Here, we’ll practice signs in ASL, meet a friendly bee who signs, and learn stories about the importance of accepting people who are different from you.
10–11 am and 1:30–3 pm, Dance Party with DJ Shannon Blowtorch
Come get your groove on and listen to some fun tunes from DJ Shannon Blowtorch. This set will be an eclectic mix of good vibes.
