Free First Saturday features free gallery admission on the first Saturday of every month. Gallery admission tickets are available online in advance and on-site on the event day from the Main Lobby desk. Free admission 10 am–5 pm; activities 10 am–3 pm.

Quillwork Inspired for Children, 10 am–3 pm
Join teaching artist Cyndy Milda to learn about porcupine quillwork—but instead of sharp quills, we’re using paper! Participants will experiment with the zigzag technique.
Dakota Floral and Parfleche Designs, 10 am–3 pm
Join teaching artist Holly Young as she shares traditional Dakota designs that have been important in her artwork. In this activity, color in your own woodcut decoration that you can bring home.
Glow Together, 10 am–3 pm
How does light change the way you see color? Inspired by the work of Dyani White Hawk, use colorful film to make a see-through collage. When lit, the colors of your collage will mix and sparkle.
Guided Tours of the Walker Galleries,
Join a Walker educator for a family-friendly guided tour of artworks on view in the galleries at 11:30 am (40 min.), take a guided tour for general audiences at 1 pm (60 min.), or join guided tour in Spanish at 3 pm (60 min). Tours explore a selection of artworks across current exhibitions and include interactive discussion. Meet at the Main Lobby desk five minutes before the tour starts.
Short Film: Dyani White Hawk in Between Worlds, 10 am–3 pm
In this documentary short, we follow the artist’s career, revisiting places where her practice began to institutions where her work calls for a deeper reflection on the story of American art. Art in the Twenty-First Century, Season 12 ©Art21, Inc. 2025.

Bios
Cyndy Milda is an enrolled member of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and a passionate advocate for community wellness and culture. In her work, she draws on her own lived experience, including her sobriety and Dakota cultural practices, while empowering others. A thriving artist, Milda is also currently a Saints Foundation Board member, an MN EMS Advisory Council member, and a member of local AIPAC committees. Deeply committed to healing and systems change, she centers her Dakota values in both her artwork and everyday life experiences. Recently, the artist has received top awards in art shows at the Heard Museum, Phoenix; the Autry Museum, Los Angeles; and the Eiteljorg Museum, Indianapolis
Holly Young is a Dakota artist who practices traditional mediums using contemporary vision and inspiration.
