Rooftop Comedy with FAWK

Join us for an evening of standup comedy on the Walker’s terraces with the Funny Asian Women Kollective (FAWK).

Known for their bold humor and unapologetic storytelling, FAWK brings together a powerhouse lineup of femme comedians for a night of sharp wit and big laughs. From the current political climate to dating hell, FAWK artists will cover … most of it. What can you expect? FAWK’s inappropriate brand of comedic storytelling, trivia, and screenings of sketches produced by the collective are all part of the night. Lineup includes comedians Eve Vang, Jamie Kalakaru-Mava, Ameera Khan, Brenda Tran, and. May Losloso. The evening is hosted by Saymoukda Vongsay, with music from DJ Kool Akiem. This event is appropriate for mature audiences.

Take in sunset views of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden while you enjoy a cash bar, casual art-making, and hilarious sets that celebrate identity, resilience, and the medicine of laughter.

Gallery admission is free on Thursday nights, 5–9 pm. Save time and reserve your gallery admission tickets online.

This program will have ASL interpretation.

Funny Asian Women Kollective (FAWK) was founded in 2014 by Saymoukda Duangphouxay Vongsay, May Lee-Yang, and Naomi Ko to combat the invisibility and dehumanization of Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) women using humor and comedy. Too often, we’re asked to censor ourselves so we don’t make our communities “look bad” or reflect problematic stereotypes of the hyper-sexualized Asian woman or the submissive, oppressed one. FAWK is an uncensored space where APIDA women can tell their truths without compromise. For us, “comedy” can exist as standup, sketches, storytelling, music, poetry, and videos—a powerful way to make talking about controversial issues more accessible and engaging.
