Rosy Simas: A:gajë:gwah dësa’nigöëwë:nye:' (i hope it will stir your mind)

A dark space with light swirling around columns and a red wall on the left.

Rosy Simas (Seneca Nation of Indians, Heron clan) is a transdisciplinary and dance artist. The history of her Hodinöšyö:nih family and lineage underpins her practice, which engages with physical movement, images, and objects that she makes for stage and installation. The presentation at the Walker features newly commissioned work created during a yearlong residency at the institution, and includes an in-gallery installation and an evening-length performance.

A:gajë:gwah dësa’nigöëwë:nye:’ (i hope it will stir your mind) is rooted in the Hodinöšyö:nih Great Law of Peace, a guide that brought warring nations together long before the founding of the United States. Simas’s exhibition calls on this history to create a resting space to bring communities together and find a pathway to peace in our current time of bigotry and divisive politics. The in-gallery installation will feature video, sound, and sculptural elements, with the performance offering additional opportunities to evoke her personal heritage in a communal space.
