1-1/8 x 8-3/4 x 6-1/4 inches
The color prints document Beuys' drawings in the sand on the Kenyan coast in 1974. The photographs are rather typical 4 x 6" or 6 x 4" "vacation" photos, and are mounted on pieces of black cardboard that are 5-7/8 x 8-1/4", so that each "sheet" just fits inside the box. Photographs are by Charles Wilp. Printed on edge of box lid: "Beuys/Wilp Sandzeichnungen in Diani Qumran". White label pasted inside box lid indicates that 250 examples are numbered and that the first 25 are signed. Label is numbered "79" and gives further info about publisher, copyright, etc. Box bottom (accession #92.264.17) has a hole in the bottom, approx. 1" diameter. Both the 1985 Schellmann catalogue raisonné and the 1992 Schellmann catalogue raisonné indicate there are 16 photographs. The Walker's version, 79/250, is missing one of the color photos as there are only 15 in the box.
