General Internship and Fellowship Information

Thank you for your interest in the Walker Art Center as a place to visit, learn, and work! The Walker is very appreciative that students and others from the community regard this institution as a place to contribute to the vibrant local, national, and international arts communities.

Internships at the Walker are unpaid unless supported by a grant. Internship opportunities may open in the following departments: Education and Public Programs; Marketing/PR; Registration; Development and Membership; Library/Archives; Performing Arts; Visual Arts; and/or Moving Image. While these are unpaid opportunities, we do provide all interns a one-year Walker membership and museum discount, the opportunity to work alongside talented individuals as well as support some remarkable artists, events, and programming while gaining some valuable and meaningful work experience.

When internship opportunities open, we will post them on this site and invite applications at that time. If you don’t see an internship posted on this site, that means we do not have an internship available at the present time.

The Walker offers 2 recurring Fellowship programs and frequently receives grant support for additional fellowship opportunities. We will post all these opportunities on this site and invite applications at that time. The following outlines the timing of our 2 recurrent fellowship opportunities:

1) Paid 2-year Curatorial Fellowship program for emerging curatorial scholars with advanced art history, cultural studies, or other similar degrees. We will open application process again in early 2017 for fellowship appointment for 2017 – 2019.

2) Paid 1-year Graphic Design Fellowship program for graphic designers with an advanced degree.
2017 Opportunity on Hiatus.
We will open the application process again in Spring 2018.

The Walker is committed to increasing diversity in our workforce, processes, and practices. We welcome applications from minority group members, women, persons with disabilities, members of sexual minority groups and others who may contribute to further diversification of ideas. We are an EOE/AA employer dedicated to fair and inclusive employment practices for all individuals.

Again, thank you for your interest in our internship and fellowship programs at the Walker Art Center. We wish you the very best in locating an internship/fellowship here or in another institution that is meaningful and fits your career goals!
