Out of the Box: A Walker Night In was an unusual fundraiser for unusual times. This unique approach to the traditional benefit is rooted in the Walker’s mission to connect artists with audiences and serve as a catalyst for creative expression by providing financial support to artists for their work. With Out of the Box, 75 Walker patrons participated in raising critical operating funds in a moment of need for the museum. Curators from all disciplines selected a mix of commissions, prints, films, and music by artists represented in the collection to deliver everything needed for an engaging night in.

Supporting Out of the Box through generous sponsorship were Blu Dot and Taft, two longtime corporate partners with deep ties to the institution.

Blu Dot, the designer and maker of modern furniture, is led by John Christakos, who also serves as the president of the Walker Board of Trustees. As a longtime supporter of Avant Garden, Blu Dot eagerly accepted the opportunity to cosponsor Out of the Box. “Not only are we proud to support the Walker as they have deftly navigated gallery closures and canceled performances,” says Christakos, “but it’s also fun to be able to connect with and highlight artists who have deep relationships with the Walker.”

For the prestigious national law firm Taft (formerly Briggs and Morgan), investing time and resources into the communities they serve is essential. Taft has supported the Walker in the past through corporate membership and sponsorship of exhibitions such as Cindy Sherman and Spectacular Vernacular. “The Walker, an organization dedicated to helping communities navigate through today’s complexities, is an inspiration,” says Taft partner Greg Stenmoe, a longtime Walker trustee. “Having the opportunity to give back to the Walker, a national leader, at a moment of need during this crucial time ensures that audiences and artists alike will continue to have access to creative resources and cutting-edge programming.”
